Wirral Ladies

Back to list of Courses

Wirral Ladies , was formed in 1894, and has been awarded GolfMark, a national seal of approval for facilities which play an important role in the development of the game.

Laid out when the Wirral was countryside and seashore, the course fits effortlessly into the natural environment, covering the highest open land on the peninsula. This largely hidden green oasis retains its heritage of small copses and heathland and has become an important habitat for wildlife.

A short but interesting course, which is always enjoyable, particularly if you are willing to have a go with a driver on tight holes for some real birdie opportunities. Wirral Ladies plays like a seaside course with heather and gorse.

Course Details

Open to both sexes, Wirral Ladies Golf Club was formed in 1894 by the female family members of Royal Liverpool as somewhere for them to play. It was designed by Harry Hilton, a local golfer who won The Open twice in the 1890s and is laid out on a delightful area of Wirral heathland. With excellent drainage on to sandstone, Wirral Ladies stays in excellent condition year round and is the closest course to Liverpool city centre.
